This is my newest storie ....There are spelling errors cause i haven't had time to have my english teacher look over it..or do the corrections from when she read part of ch. 1...but here is my newest storie...
Ever wonder what the future would be like? Well that question was sadly answered, it wasn’t answered how you would expect it to be answered either. It wasn’t glamorous like flying car’s, teleportation, and the other wonders. No sadly it was worse, a few years after; I think the date than was 2750 I’m not completely sure…
It all happened so fast, one day we were sitting the next we were being bombed. Than silence, nothing after that we were all dead….so we thought, a few day’s after the explosion I was told that most were dying, from poisons in the air, toxins that ate the flesh, poisons that destroyed us all, or the weaker ones who lost all will to shove forward in a hopeless quest for survival.
Most survivors made groups or as we like to call them factions, these faction’s became gang’s all doing the same thing none wanting to be near the other for fear of infection. Nobody wanted to remake the world, only survive, but the answer to survival was to start the rebuild. I don’t know why nobody listened to him when he preached about rebuilding our lives instead of fight each other for the last bit of food in a destroyed store, I suppose there are things I didn’t understand or want to understand for that fact.
But what never stopped to amaze me was that every faction started dying off, well it was expected that after five years of being away from the contaminated area’s they though it would be fine to go back and scavenge for food. Boy, were they ever wrong; they had diseases that we had never seen close up. People getting boils over the entire area of there skin they couldn’t walk for fear of hurting. Well, soon they died off, and the one’s who were smart not to go survived this little fiasco of diminishing life.
Chapter one: what’s to live for now that all’s been blown away?
“PUT YOUR MASK BACK ON WHAT THE HELL IS THE MATTER WITH YOU?” I heard I looked over a pile of discarded can’s and trash to see a tall person with an old respirator mask, older than mine rushing to put back on his child’s mask before the fumes could seep into his lungs sealing his fate for the rest of his life, or should I say the last months of it any way.
I looked at the person ‘damn if it weren’t for the child’ I thought looking at the child though if the fume’s reached him I might as well? I thought looking at them intently wondering if I should strike and see if I could find an uncontaminated meal. ‘Probably not’ I thought turning around and moving slowly back down the pile so I wouldn’t become a target my self. It was bad enough that I was out side alone, but I had a secret under my cloak I had a hatchet I found in an old hardware store, though I must say I’m glad it was there, usually all the other factions would pick up little goodie’s like these as if they were surviving, I thought almost letting out a small laugh under my mask. I started coughing a little I swallowed some spit wrong now I was wheezing for breath ‘ I really have to stop doing stupid mistakes like this or I am going to get noticed before I get back’.
Getting my self back under control I moved along a small road and under the remains of a burnt ….what were they called seme trucks, semo trucks…no that’s right semi trucks. I was moving under the remains of the semi truck, than jumping off into the ditch or that’s what I was told they were called well it was a hole that went far, I followed it along till I got to a tunnel and crawled in moving into the dark damp recesses of the tunnel, till I hit an open space that I could get in.
“well I'm home” I said moving to a stainless door that led to a bomb shelter under what used to be are old house, yes I had to help dig a hole to the outside world…it was hard work but it had to be done. When I climbed in and I have closed the door a strong hand grabbed me and pulled me into the main room
“AN JUS WHA DE HELL WAS YA DOIN OUT THERE?” I was asked I recognized the voice as my uncle’s voice.
“Sorry I wanted to go out and see if I could find any thing” he pleaded as he tore the mask off my face
“WELL WE JUS GONNA HAF TA SEE WHA UR MUM TINK’S OF DIS…..NA WON WE?” he said angrily.
He had the weirdest accent some times I wondered if he was even human? Shish to consider that you might not even be from this world? But the sad fact he was originally on a trip to visit us and he tries to speak American but he just can’t sound the words right, sometimes it’s funny watching him trying to talk. “EH ELIZ YA TROUBLESUM SON EH BACK FROM THE OUT LAN” He said pulling me into the small improvised kitchen. My mom Eliz put her knife down and looked at me with caring eyes
“Are you hurt?” she asked worried
“Um…no I’m fine ma’am” I said not making eye contact any more
“It’s okay Robert let him go he’s almost eighteen let him have some more free...” she was cut off by Uncle Robert
“AH WELL ELIZ AN LET EM BRING DA SICKNESS DAWN HEY NA FOURGET ABOU DAT” He said trying to make an argument but he was lost he new he had no say; if it wasn’t for my mom he would have been lost in the blast. But to me losing uncle Robert would have been fine it was losing father to the other factions that got me. I thought getting a small feeling of grief of what would happen when I would screw up on the surface.
“Look I just want you to be careful up there, Things aren’t what they used to be any more….Ok?” my mom asked me in a calm but serious voice.
“Yes ma’am” I said sincerely.
“I CAN YA NOT YAS A BETTA NAM DAIN MA’AM!?” Uncle Robert asked me sternly.
“Robert its fine….and thanks for bringing him here when he got home” my mom said looking at him with a tired expression as she than returned to what she was doing before the interruption.
“AY’ ELIZ” Uncle said distained and turned away and walked out of the improvised kitchen with a chunk of his pride gone, or what was left. I than decided maybe I should just go and get out of here to lest I wanted another talk about safety, I decided turning around and heading for the doorway. I walked down a little hallway to the right of the improvised kitchen and walked a door or two down to my room, walking in I let the sheet fall behind me and fell on my mattress. Yes but guess what it was conveniently placed on the floor how about that? Well I lied back looking at the ceiling or the stainless steel ceiling over my head. As I laid there I wondered about life before this ever happened but I was too young when it had happened I was around five so what about thirteen years ago it happened.
There was a loud banging sound on the steal door that led to the out side world, there were also muffled voices yelling at the metal for it to be opened.
“Who’s there?” I heard my mom ask Robert.
“AYE, I have no idea?” Uncle Robert said finally calmed down enough to talk like a normal and not a Freaking Lunatic.
“LET US IN!!” The men on the outside yelled at the steel door, there voices trailing in like a haunted voice ringing through the shelter like a haunting ringing music, going in a round track.
“WE KNOW YOUR IN THERE WE SAW A PERSON COME THIS WAY IN THE HOLE WE KNOW YOUR IN THERE, COME OUT NOW OR WE WILL BE FORCED TO BLOW ARE WAY IN!!!!” one of them said at the top of his lungs to get the sound through the steel door to the haunting shelter of echoing voices. There was a loud thump followed about two minuets after that threat. I jumped automatically up and ran out into the main room looking at the door. Smoke seeped in like a thick fog that forced its way into your home. There was loud coughing coming from behind the door
“BELIEVE US NOW!?” we heard from the people out side “ONE MORE BLAST AND NOT ONLY WILL YOUR HOME BE GONE, BUT WE HAVE THE ONLY EXIT COVERED, YOU HAD YOUR CHANCE…”after that there was silence from the person out side like he had given up.
“Hurry get your suits on” Mother said calmly running to her small room at the head of the small hallway.
“AYE, YA HEARD YA MOM!” Uncle Robert snapped at me to get me back into the real world.
“Right” I said rushing to the middle of the room and snatching up my respirator mask and putting it over my face, than propped up the small hood that covered the back. I looked back just in time to be knocked off my feet. My ears were ringing with a hollow empty void everything in the room was dust covered it was spilling from were the door had been. The last I heard it was voices that sounded like they were deeply far away but they seemed smirking, than everything turned black.
“Mom!?” I yelled
“Were are you, mom…….Uncle!?” I yelled worry all came out in my speech it didn’t even sound like me, but all that was responded to was a complete void of darkness no answers. Alone no I can’t be alone were is every body? A light hit my eye and I tried to open my eyes they opened harshly, I was face down on the floor a lamp was shining in my eyes. It must have been knocked down when they bro....
The events that had unraveled earlier made me jump up, everything ached I was in complete and total pain not knowing if anything was broken I wobbled to the hallway. When I looked in the first room blood ran down one side of the wall like it had started at the top of the wall and ran down the wall arcing out like a curvy triangle.
“Mom?” I asked in a feared voice, once again no answer nothing just the blank void. I had no idea how long I had been out, but were was everybody? I moved down the hall still wobbling but keeping my balance, when I reached my room I opened the curtain. Nothing everything that could be carried was gone. Turning to my right I wobbled over to the last room and peeked in fearing the worst, once again no blood but everything that could be carried was gone. Meaning almost everything small and valuable that we held dear but they were only possessions they never mattered much. I turned around moving to main room again a small trace of sunlight cast a shadow, on the opposing wall next to me the door lay next to the wall blown off its hinges. Blood was seeping under it; I didn’t need to go over and look I could already guess. But the thing that hit me was that before I didn’t want uncle around know I wanted him here more than ever I hardly new what to do. I realized that I was hardly touched my mask still on me, the questions started pouring through my head. I shut them out I couldn’t stand to think about why I hadn’t been taken or killed, but at the moment I couldn’t stand to be here any more I had to leave go out in the open feel the sun hitting my clothes warming me through them. When I stumbled out of the entrance into the dirty little cave area that we had dug out a long time ago it looked twice or three times as big as it had been how ever long ago, the last time I crawled through here. When I got out into the sunlight it wasn’t warming it just felt cold to me, why does it feel so cold? Why is it so impossible that we cant just live to live and not kill each other? I didn’t want that question answered at all, but nothing felt the same I just felt hollow no feeling at all.
“Hey you kid!”
I turned around with my arms at my side I looked at the person through the mask.
“Why you down there boy?” he said almost seeming to ask the same question. Why wont he just leave just leave I want to be alone, I am alone.
“What?” I said almost inaudible.
“What’s that boy?” he said jumping down into the ditch in front of me, he looked at me through goggles with a damp rag tied over his face to filter the air.
“What?” I said again with a little more tone, to be heard through the thick mask.
“Oh, well I was going bye about five hours ago, seeing smoke rise so I went back and…..” I cut him off; I didn’t want to hear details.
CHAPTER TWO: the definition of life after death.
Two months later.
“Hey kid wake up!” Frandel said slapping my face. I opened my eye’s slowly looking at him he had on a new respirator mask.
“Nice mask” I said with a start, sitting up.
“What’s going on?” I asked yawning after I had just barely said those words.
“We have to go.” He said in a freaked out voice.
“Why what happened?” I said starting to put on my boots.
“No time I will explain later, but know is survival time.” He said turning around
“Know how to use one of these?” he asked me handing me a 9mm pistol.
“Yes you thought me how to shoot remember?” I said putting on my respirator mask and standing up, taking the pistol and cocking it how I was taught to load the pistol and ready to fire it.
“Good know follow me” Frandel said turning around and moving down the tunnel at a quickened pace. I followed Frandel pistol in hand this small new home of mine became natural I was able to keep up with him, but I still didn’t know why we were running.
“In here” Frandel said kicking open a small hidden area, he was crouching in front of it telling me to dive in. I dove in and he came in diving right after almost landing on top of me. He turned around and sealed up the entrance.
“Follow me, kid” Frandel said moving down another passageway that I had never known of, it was completely dark in this new tunnel but I could keep up with him just by listening to his footsteps on the smooth cool earth. It was strange how I would never notice this place usually I can take in everything and guess things but I couldn’t this time; there was no time to ponder this if Frandel was correct we needed to move.
“This way kid” Frandel said with the largest need of urgency in his voice. I followed Frandel with out a word but what were we running from? We came out into a large room that was symmetrical to a dome.
“We should be safe here” Frandel said turning around and sitting down with a heavy sigh of relief.
“Frandel what exactly are we running from?” I asked I didn’t want to be left out in the dark I had to know if I was going to run for my life.
“well kid lets just say that there are people who want me dead, and well I’m sure if they met you they would do the same and I’m pretty sure you like living?” He said with a slight pause than added
“Or if I’m wrong you can go back through that tunnel and pop in and say ‘Ello!’ or you could stay here and live” putting it in a joking matter when he was acting the complete opposite.
“Ok I get the point” I said not wanting to push anything farther than what it was know unless I wanted chance of being kicked out bye my savior. Yes I realized him as a savior because he saved me from doing something stupid after the…accident.
“I’YE kid do you hear that?” Frandel asked listening intently to the soil walls. I put my ear to the earthy wall and listened, there was scuffling and some loud bangs.
“See kid the’s after me I told ye.” Frandel was saying ecstatically
“Ok Frandel but I never questioned I was just asking what it was we were running away from?” I said in a hopeless defense Frandel was actually one of those before destruction people who apparently preached the end of the world as we know it thing, well he was right.
“So….um what do we do kno…..” I was about to say when Frandel interrupted me.
“Lets move further in” Frandel said moving to another section of this dome type room and kicking in a small section of the floor he jumped in disappearing. He bobbed his head back up looking at me through his gasmask.
“Hey kid lets move it” Frandel said popping back into the hole and he was gone. I climbed into the hole and hit the ground it was seven freaking feet deep, how the hell he managed to do all this I will know. But I followed Frandel for what seemed like hours till we hit another room, this one was about half the size of the other but was filled with supplies.
“Ok we can stay here kid.” Frandel said looking at me with an enthusiastic look on his face. He had taken his mask off and he started laughing.
“Hahaha Never EVER MESS WITH FRANDEL THE GREAT!!” he said almost at the top of his lungs well I guess it was ok from him to yell considering how far we crawled.
“So Frandel what kind of place is this?” I asked removing my respirator mask from my face and setting it on the ground next to me in an easy reach area. Frandel stood up with his arms stretched out.
“This Jeremy Is my whole life’s work, everything that I have strived for is all strewn across this area, Its all on my private plot of land this is the future” Frandel said He had used my name he rarely used my name, in fact I think he had only used it around 3 times this being the third.
“So if this is the future were is it?” I said mentioning all the boxes.
“Hohoho this is only the food storage area this is one hundred years of freeze dried food, fifty with you here phey.” He said like a pouting child but Frandel had to be about sixty years old himself already.
“So than what else is here?” I asked know curious from Frandel talking about this new place like it was the utopia that every survivor wanted to be in.
“Well Jeremy glad you asked follow me” Frandel said motioning me to follow him.
“I actually finished the bomb shelter part two years before it actually went off but I didn’t know that I would run out of time to cement the rest of this place but...” Frandel stopped deep in thought and kicked down another dirt cover to reveal more crates.
“Frandel what are those?” I asked him walking towards them.
“DON’T TOUCH THOSE YOU BASTERD” Frandel yelled running at me and pushing me into the wall. He went over to the crates and started hugging them
“Its ok its ok daddy’s here everything’s going to be alright babies” Frandel was chanting.
“WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT FOR!?” I yelled at Frandel he has never done something like that to me but why would he? Frandel looked at me with scorn in his eyes.
“DON’T EVER TOUCH THESE” He said with a fiery glaze in his eyes.
“Ok” I said wanting him to come back to normal I decided to change the subject.
“So Frandel how long did it take to make this?” I asked him wanting deeply for him to come back and act sane, I mean I knew he was like this but he usually never got like this unless you looked or reached out to something in a box.

“I’YE kid do you hear that?” Frandel asked listening intently to the soil walls. I put my ear to the earthy wall and listened, there was scuffling and some loud bangs.
“See kid the’s after me I told ye.” Frandel was saying ecstatically
